in the Life of the Team |

The team stayed in individual
bungalows at a beach-side resort, with the ocean only a few yards away.
After the day's work, we relaxed at "home," enjoying the views of exotic
trees, the ocean, and the sounds and sights of some amazing African
birds. |

No, that is not a small tree
in the center of the left photo -- it is a woman carrying branches on
her head. (Click
on the photo for a closer view.)
Often the day began with an early-morning walk on the beach in hopes of
catching a sunrise. (We succeeded once!) |
 |
 |
Sometimes we had company on
the way to breakfast. In fact we had to be careful not to step on
these lizards, as they seemed to appear from nowhere! The first few days were
spent visiting. The children were very interested! |
 |
 |
Our first stops were to meet
the two local chiefs. The Paramount Chief wore a fine robe and a
large ring.
However, we were not the only ones waiting
to meet the Chief. These ladies were well dressed for the
occasion! |

When in Rome, ... Here,
a young team member is receiving a braided hairdo. It took a lot
of effort. At the end of the first
week, we toured a rain-forest Reserve. |
 |
 |
We discovered many unusual
plants and trees. The roots of one species were almost completely
exposed! (Click on the picture.)
For an overnight adventure, a hut can be
rented for less than $2.00, complete with mosquito netting for the hard
plank "bed." We didn't see any takers. |
 |
 |
We also visited Kumasi, where
we bought some hand-made items, including many drums.
After the weekend touring, it was back to
work. A few days remained to complete the church and school
construction (see Part 2); the Vacation
Bible School was also scheduled for three more days (see
Part 3). |
 |
 |
The workday ended with a
visit to the beach, where the views were wonderful and the water was
warm. The younger team members
dreamed of castles, quickly completing them before the tide swept in.
